Restart Net

A modern web builder

-

Restart Net is a simplified platform allowing anyone to create a professional website in minutes, with no technical or design skills required, using a smartphone or regular computer.

The user will normally have purchased their domain from one of the popular providers - just the domain - no need for any SSL certificate or other "protections".

A Restart Net website always includes an editor site where you update content directly. The Live site is linked to the editor site through a quick one-time effort to change the name servers in the user's Domain Registrar account.

Standout features of Restart Net websites are performance, security, ease of use, design flexibility and real-time visit metrics.

Performance

When someone visits a web page several data files are downloaded:

Restart Net websites ensure that all of these data assets are as small as possible - typically about 50k in total. Sites built with popular website builders, by contrast, deliver on average at least 2.5mb and never less than 1mb.

Web pages built with Restart Net are between 20 and 50 times smaller compared to popular web builders

Small is beautiful when it comes to website performance. The smaller the file the less time to transfer and process the data.

There's a cost to every page you visit on the internet - you pay with the CPU cycles your device needs in order to compile and execute the code. Smartphone users may pay by using up more of their data plan. The world pays by having to provide the infrastructure and energy capacity needed to power the internet.

Security

Every Restart Net web page is delivered with a strict Content Security Policy (CSP) making it impossible for hackers to compromise your site.

Attacks like Cross-site Request Forgery (CSRF) and Cross-site scripting (XSS) simply aren't possible on our pages.

In addition to this, cookies are banned from our sites, preventing hackers from taking over a user's identity to make unauthorised purchases for example. There's also no need to annoy your visitors with cookie consent forms because there aren't any.

No cookies on Restart Net sites

None of our pages use passwords. Instead we use JSON Web Tokens (JWT) to securely identify every server request. Tokens are renewed automatically every 5 minutes enabling you to stay securely "logged on" for as long as you want.

Passwords are easily forgotten, easily stolen, involve a lot of friction and should never be part of any modern application.

If someone steals your device or token, they won't be able to edit your website because our token security is enhanced with fingerprint security which identifies the IP address and device combinations that only you have authenticated through your email.

Ease of Use

Each Restart Net page comprises four discrete sections each of which are edited individually.

Editing the Navigation Bar

The navigation element is a menu list of the website's top level page labels.

The editor allows new pages to be created and existing pages to be deleted.

Editing the Header

A header consists of a title and optional subtitle elements. By default these are centred at the top of each website page.

The header can choose either a background colour or use a full screen image background.

Different fonts can be selected for the title and subtitle. For each font, the user may further choose different sizes, weights, widths, styles (normal or italic) and optical sizes. The user may also choose a variable sized underline for the title and subtitle.

With over 450 different fonts to choose from for each of the title and subtitle, this allows an extremely broad range of design flexibility.

The effect of selecting fonts and adjusting the various slider controls is immediately reflected in the content.

Combining complementary fonts is important in web design. The title font aims to capture the visitor's attention and is applied to all headings in the page. The subtitle font on the other hand is applied to all text copy and aims to provide a more sedate reading experience.

Editing the Content

Nothing frustrates more than spending a long time composing content than to have it all disappear when your network connection goes down or your device runs out of battery and switches off.

For this reason, there is no "save" button in the editor - all content changes are automatically saved every 2 seconds in the database - the number of words and characters saved is shown at the bottom of the editor.

The content editor provides a lot of different typographical elements to choose from - headings, paragraphs, colours, bold, italics, underline, text alignment, horizontal lines, links, lists, block quotes, code blocks, digital media, tables.

Undo and redo buttons let the user back out and re-apply changes.

There's also a "Select all" button to select all content in the editor.

Editing the Footer

The footer element that appears on every page contains contact details and various social media links.

Content in the footer is shown in the subtitle font chosen for the header.
